Grants for Great Ideas Awarded

 

 

Fifty-six teachers in twenty- eight schools received grant awards totaling over $47,000 in the foundation's Grants for Great Ideas program. The funded projects will impact over 6,700 students. Local dollars raised for this program are matched by the State of Florida.

 

Educational Foundation, School District crown volunteer and school-related employee of the year at annual Night of Stars

 

At the annual Night of Stars celebration, Lake County Schools and Education Foundation of Lake County shine a spotlight on the exemplary service volunteers and school-related employees provide to the School District.

 

From more than 6,000 volunteers, schools selected 39 volunteers who were vying for the Volunteer of the Year honor.

Eustis Elem. finalist takes Rookie Teacher of the Year title

 

 

Terri Pfister, a third grade teacher from Eustis Elementary, took the title of 2014 Rookie Teacher of the Year for Lake County Schools at Tuesday night's Award Ceremony at Lake-Sumter State College.


"Ms. Pfister is a great role model as well as an effective educator," said Kay Sawchuk, Principal at Eustis Elementary. "Her students not only respect her but they love her very much. Eustis Elementary is privileged to have such an excellent educator to represent us as Lake County Rookie Teacher of the Year."

Foundation Elects New Officers and Rolls Out New Marketing Plan

 

 

Scott Blankenship has assumed the role of President for the Educational Foundation's Board of Directors. Scott is the Director of the Lake County Office of Economic Development and Tourism. Other members of the executive board are Vice President Janet Bolivar, Secretary Mike Stone, Treasurer Bill Giffing, Past President Joe Alexander and Executive Advisor Dick Bowersox. The foundation will also be using the new branding slogan Get on the Bus in cooperation with the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations which is promoting Get on the Bus Florida. Locally, Akers Media Group and the Daily Commercial are partners in the rollout.

 

 

 

Finalists announced for school-related employee of the year

 

A team of Lake County School District officials recently visited three employees - Gina Leake, Rosanne Rodriguez and Doris Weizenecker - to announce their selection as finalists for the School-Related Employee of the Year.


Employees at each school and department recently selected a nominee for the honor of School-Related Employee of the Year. All nominees filled out an application and a panel of judges' scored the applications to select the three finalists. To celebrate their selection, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Moxley; Aurelia Cole, Chief of Administration; Laurie Marshall, Executive Director of Human Resources; and Dr. Creed Wheeler, Executive Director of Information Technology, surprised the employees at their workplace.

Disney Donation

 

 

Walt Disney World has donated $35,000 to the foundation which will be used to fund industry certifications for students in our Career Academies. The funds will also be used for InSync Education's District-Wide Model.  The new district-wide model gives all families equal access to meaningful academic resources aligned to Common Core Standards.  InSync Education creates a stronger bond between public school and their students, teachers, and parents on an easy-to-use mobile platform.
